Do you ever struggle with finding something to wear? Do you look in your closet and think, “I don’t have anything to wear”! I’ve been here before! I want to let you know, there are ways to overcome this styling block. You my friend, are in luck. I am going to show you how I overcome styling blocks. There are so many times when I don’t choose my outfits ahead of time. I go to my closet and get dressed based on the occasion. Truth is a lot of things in my closet are either black, white, beige or some kind of neutral. Don’t get me wrong I like colors, I just tend to buy a lot of black things. When I stare at my closet, I sometimes to think to myself, I don’t want to always wear black. My shopping cart is usually full of black items. Do you want to know why? Because, you can wear black with pretty much anything. Same thing for white, you can never go wrong with adding a pop of color with an all black outfit. I’m going to let you in on a few little secrets I do, when I find myself stuck or in a rut about my wardrobe.
First thing is to start with a base monochrome look. You can use a a bodysuit or tank top, something sleek where you can layer things on top of it. Like I said before, a lot of my wardrobe is black, so I’ll start with a black bodysuit and a pair of jeans.
Next, head to your closet and start choosing tops, jackets, cardigans, blazers anything you like at the moment. Color doesn’t matter. I usually match things like accessories, but you don’t have to match if you’re not into that. Using those pieces you chose from your closet, start mixing and matching different things to layer the bodysuit. Make sure you’re using a mirror so you can see what’s cute and what’s not.
Using a floral blouse creates a subtle feminine vibe. This look is perfect for a casual day at work, or even a work from home outfit. Adding this blouse allows you to be presentable and professional for Zoom calls and meetings. The bodysuit by itself, is a bit much for that.
A cute mid sleeve, midriff top, is a perfect addition to this base look. This top brings energy and happiness to my day. This outfit is comfortable for any occasion. You can head to lunch with your girls. This top drops off the shoulders, so all you have to do is add some heels and head out on the town for some night time fun.
Something as simple as adding a leather moto jacket can elevate this base look. It gives you the option to remove the jacket if and wear the look as is. And if you get chilly you can throw it back on for a bada** look. Even without the jacket you can add accessories to the base look with a chic necklace or a leopard print face mask. Whatever accessories you add will have you looking classy and chic at the same time.
When you add textures and prints to a black bodysuit, you’re showing off your style. Choosing a print like the buffalo plaid top will have you looking stylish. You don’t have to wear it as a traditional top. Tie it around your waist and add a baseball cap to dress it down. This cute combo is perfect for a family event.
With each looking you are creating your own style that allows you to use what’s already in your wardrobe. If you think about it you’re also saving money, because you built a bunch of different outfits against one base look. This styling technique also saves you time to find looks for the future. How will you overcome your styling block?
